Project: The Avenue at Westchase
Location: Tampa, Florida
Residents of the upscale community of West Park Village had limited retail space until Sikon Construction broke ground on The Avenue at Westchase, a 97,000-square-foot mixed-use commercial space. Within walking distance of the village, it offers the community numerous goods and services. Real Estate Property Specialist President Alan Charron, MAI, said, “Residents will have another place to walk or bike to for things like ice cream cones, gifts and neighborly conversation.”
Aesthetics and overall appeal of The Avenue were important priorities for Charron. He commissioned Nathan Griffes, Cuhaci & Peterson Architects to create a design that would complement the environment. They chose CertainTeed’s GlasRoc Sheathing — the next generation of high-performance, weather-resistant, gypsum-based sheathing — for use with the structure’s EIFS system due to the product’s superior bond.
GlasRoc features a patented technology known as Enhanced Glass Reinforced Gypsum Technology (EGRG), with reinforcing glass mats that are fully embedded into a water-resistant gypsum core. It provides enhanced dimensional stability, yet is flexible enough to bend to curved surfaces like the towers at The Avenue at Westchase.
According to project superintendent Jason Rice, “Installers were happy when they found out they’d be installing CertainTeed’s GlasRoc Sheathing. It is the sheathing product they prefer.”
